Wounded Dragons seeking Fire

Can Segar withstand the wounded Dragons?

After a week of mixed fortunes, Sri Devi Dragons would be looking bounce back to their winning ways when the Premier League Kabaddi resumes this weekend.

The PLK took an unscheduled break due to the participation of the teams in other open competitions and the Dragons were in the thick of these competitions.

They won the Sri Devi Invitational in convincing fashion last week but were brought down to earth by Bukit Pelandok in an open tournament held in Negri Sembilan on Sunday.

The defeat was the sides first in any competition this year and must be considered as a wake up call for the high riding Dragons.

The Dragons are expected to unleash their fury of losing to Bukit Pelandok when they take on Segar in their PLK encounter this weekend at their home ground at the 14th mile in Puchong.

Segar are currently lying second last in the points tables and would be hard pressed against their more experienced rivals.

The expected win would further strengthen the Dragons position at the top of the table as second placed Tamillan Kabaddi would not be able to overhaul their scoring rate.

Both the Dragons and the Tamillans are currently on level points but the Dragons have a much superior scoring rate.

The Tamillans have a tricky match against Damansara but are still expected to pull through.

With darkhorses Selayang given an off day, the attention would be on the chasing pack. Sri Devi Tigers can consolidate their position among the top four if they get past the Kg Pandan Lions.

The Lions are restructuring their team and have not been able to make their mark as expected in the PLK so far. But if the Lions are able to hold their own against the Sri Devi Dragons, they may have a good chance of leaping up to fourth place in the table.

The Lions play their second team Kg Pandan Tigers earlier in the day, in a match they should come out tops.

Upcoming Tamillan Juniors can also move up the ranks but they will have first have to beat two established clubs this weekend – MIG Sentosa and Damansara.

With almost all the lower ranked teams having to play two matches this week, there should be plenty of changes in the points tables. However, none of these teams would be able to overtake the three front runners in the PLK – Sri Devi Dragons, Tamillan Kabaddi and Selayang.

In the women’s competition, Segar Brights would be looking to dislodge leaders Sri Devi Princess at the top of the table. The Princess have no matches this weekend while the Brights would be up against third placed Sri Manjari.

Both teams can mathematically displace the Princess of they win their encounter. But the chances are better for Brights who have a far better scoring rate compared to Sri Manjari.

In another match, Damansara and Sri Devi Angels would be in search of their first win in the PLK. Both teams are currently lying at the bottom of the table and would be hoping for a win to boost their chances of finishing in the top three.
